Just over a decade ago, a seven-member edition of Front Porch Roots Revue ran the show “Up On Cripple Creek: The Songbook of The Band” to enthusiastic response from fans of The Band. Since then, the ensemble has come together to play gigs around Alberta and B.C. Up On Cripple Creek boasts five strong singers, led by Calgary’s JR Shore and Doug Andrew (Vancouver’s Circus In Flames). Bassist/vocalist Ron Rault, drummer Thom Moon (Ian Tyson), Calgary keyboard ace Garth Kennedy, the great Gord Matthews on guitar/harmonica and vocalist Crawdad Cantera are all key players in this project. For the Fall 2024 dates, Up On Cripple Creek will be presenting “The Music of The Band, Bob Dylan and The Byrds” with special guest, John York, a one time member of the legendary Byrds. York toured extensively with The Byrds and has contributed his vocals, bass and original songs to various albums. Armed with songs from all the great Band albums, this troupe dishes out authentic and soulful renditions of Band classics like “The Weight”, “Stage Fright”, “Across the Great Divide”, “Shape I’m In”, “It Makes No Difference”, “Ophelia”, “When I Paint My Masterpiece”, and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”. Show producer Peter North says, “this will be another memorable edition of the Up On Cripple Creek show and with John York on board it broadens the palette and gives fans some new takes on timeless material.
